Dimensional Capabilities of Foam Patterns
Tom Shewfelt Foseco, Ontario, Canada/Bessemer, AL, USA Lost foam tooling that creates castings is not an unrelated step in a cumulative process. How much tolerance should be allowed in the foam and in the pattern tool will be discussed. What position tolerances have been achieved is reconciled through case studies of functional design. Lost foam casting capabilities for surface finish, size of various types of geometric features, and tolerances across bond lines in built-up complex foam patterns are highlighted in examples of production components. |
